Guide for Authors

1. Manuscript Types

Journal of Materials Intelligence and Computing (JMIC) invites the submission of various manuscript types, including:

  • Research Articles
  • Review Articles
  • Perspectives
  • Technical Notes
  • Data Sets

2. Manuscript Structure

  • Title: Provide a concise and descriptive title that accurately reflects the core findings. Use specific terminology to ensure the work is easily identifiable by the target audience.
  • Abstract: Compose a stand alone summary within 150–250 words that outlines the research objective, methodology, primary results, and major conclusions. Avoid using citations or undefined abbreviations within this section.
  • Keywords: Select 4-6 specific terms that represent the study’s subject matter and techniques. These are used for database indexing and to maximize the manuscript's discoverability.
  • Introduction: Define the research problem and provide relevant background context to justify the study. State the specific objectives or hypotheses being addressed to guide the reader through the work.
  • Methodology / Computational Details: Detail the experimental procedures, materials, and software parameters with enough technical precision to allow for full replication. Explicitly state any assumptions, models, or statistical methods employed.
  • Results and Discussion: Report findings clearly using supporting data, tables, and figures. Interpret the significance of these results in the context of existing literature and address any limitations encountered during the study.
  • Conclusion: Summarize the most significant contributions of the work and their implications for the field. Offer a brief outlook on potential future research directions or practical applications.
  • Acknowledgements: Identify individuals, institutions, or funding bodies that provided technical or financial assistance. Ensure all grant numbers and departmental support are cited according to institutional requirements.
  • References: List all scholarly works cited within the manuscript to credit previous research. Ensure every entry follows the journal’s specific formatting style and corresponds directly to an in-text citation.

3. Formatting Requirements

Authors must adhere to the following technical specifications to ensure the manuscript is processed for peer review:

  • File Format: Submit the manuscript as an editable Word document (.docx) or as a LaTeX file. If submitting in LaTeX, include all necessary style files and high-resolution image files in a compressed folder.
  • Font: Use Times New Roman font, maintained at a size of 11 or 12 points throughout the entire document.
  • Line spacing: Apply 1.5 or double spacing to all body text, including references and blockquotes, to facilitate the review and editing process.
  • Figures: Ensure all figures and illustrations have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Submit images in standard formats (e.g., TIFF, JPEG, or EPS) that maintain clarity at print dimensions.
  • Tables: Provide all tables in an editable format (e.g., using the Word table tool or LaTeX table environment) rather than as static image files. Each table must be numbered consecutively and include a descriptive heading.

4. Reference Style

Authors are required to maintain a rigorous and consistent referencing format throughout the manuscript. While APA style is recommended, any standard recognized format is acceptable provided it is applied uniformly across the entire document.

  • Citation Alignment: Every source listed in the References section must be cited within the main text. Conversely, every in-text citation must have a corresponding, detailed entry in the reference list.
  • Format Integrity: Ensure all bibliographical details—including author names, publication years, titles, and DOI links—are accurate and formatted according to the chosen style's conventions.

5. Figures and Tables

To ensure the technical quality and clarity of the manuscript, authors must adhere to the following standards for all visual data:

  • Sequential Numbering: Number all figures and tables consecutively in the order they are first mentioned in the text (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2; Table 1, Table 2). Ensure that every figure and table is explicitly cited within the body of the manuscript.
  • Captions and Headings: Provide a clear, self-explanatory caption below each figure. The caption should describe the content and any symbols or abbreviations used without requiring the reader to refer back to the main text. Also, Place a descriptive heading above each table. Headings should be concise and accurately summarize the data presented within the columns.
  • Readability and Presentation: Use high-contrast visuals and legible font sizes (typically 8–10 pt) for axis labels, legends, and cell data. Ensure that all graphical elements remain distinct and readable if resized for publication. Authors should avoid including excessive gridlines or decorative elements that do not contribute to the interpretation of the data.
  • Technical Requirement: For computational or experimental data, ensure that all units of measurement are clearly indicated in the axis titles or table headers. Figures must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi to maintain professional standards during the production phase.

6. Ethical Requirements

Authors must comply with the following ethical guidelines to ensure the integrity and transparency of the publication process:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: All submitted manuscripts must represent entirely original research that has not been published elsewhere. The journal employs rigorous screening; any instance of plagiarism, including self-plagiarism or the unauthorized use of third-party data and ideas, will result in immediate rejection or retraction.
  • Final Author Approval: Submission of a manuscript implies that all listed co-authors have reviewed the final version of the work and have provided explicit approval for its publication. It is the responsibility of the corresponding author to ensure that all contributors are in agreement regarding the content and the order of authorship.
  • Conflict of Interest Disclosure: Authors are required to disclose any financial, professional, or personal relationships that could be construed as a potential conflict of interest. If no such conflicts exist, the manuscript must include the statement: "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
  • Policy Compliance: All submissions must adhere strictly to the journal’s established editorial and ethical policies. This includes compliance with standards for data integrity, peer-review etiquette, and, where applicable, the ethical treatment of subjects in experimental research.

7. Data and Code Availability

To promote transparency and reproducibility, authors must include a statement regarding the accessibility of their research materials:

  • Data Availability: Specify where the data supporting your findings can be accessed. Provide links to public repositories, cite data included in the supplementary files, or state if data are available upon reasonable request.
  • Code Availability: If the study utilizes custom scripts or software, authors are encouraged to share the code via persistent links (e.g., GitHub or Zenodo) or as supplementary material.

8. Review Process

The journal maintains a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the highest standards of objectivity and academic integrity.

  • Review Process: All submitted manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent experts in the field. Under the double-blind protocol, the identities of both the authors and the reviewers remain confidential throughout the evaluation process.
  • Mandatory Anonymization: Authors are responsible for removing all identifying information from the manuscript prior to submission. This includes eliminating author names, affiliations, and contact details from the main document; removing identifying information from file properties (metadata).

9. Revision Policy

Authors may be invited to revise their manuscript based on the feedback provided during the peer-review process. Adherence to the following guidelines is required for all resubmissions:

  • Response to Reviewers: Provide a comprehensive , point-by-point response to all comments raised by the editors and reviewers. Clearly explain the modifications made or provide a robust justification if a suggested change was not implemented.
  • Manuscript Highlighting: To facilitate the re-evaluation process, clearly identify all changes in the revised manuscript by highlighting the updated text in a different color.
  • Submission Deadlines: Resubmissions must be uploaded within the timeframe specified in the decision letter (typically 2–4 weeks for minor revisions and 4–8 weeks for major revisions). Requests for extensions must be submitted to the editorial office prior to the deadline.
  • Final Decision: A request for revision does not guarantee final acceptance. The revised manuscript may undergo a second round of peer review to ensure that all technical and editorial concerns have been sufficiently addressed.
